From Field to Fork for Heinz

Ever wonder the path a tomato travels to become Heinz Ketchup? Indigo6 traveled to California to photograph and film the harvest of Heinz tomatoes. Heinz, its growers and processors are committed to sustainable agriculture, food safety and quality.

We traveled to the HeinzSeed research facility in Stockton, CA where traditional breeding techniques help to create new breeds of tomatoes that require less water, pesticides and fertilization. We met with growers to see how new farming techniques like GPS and drip irrigation are helping to conserve precious resources.  We toured processing plants to see how improved plant design and sustainable practices are helping to reduce energy consumption and waste. From the time a tomato is harvested until it is ready for package takes a round trip time of under four hours. Pretty efficient and impressive!
